Time to Connect Balancing Act
|
I recently read an article from the Barna Research Group titled; “Americans Not Concerned
About Their Spiritual Condition.” My first thought was that the article referred to the unchurched
or people that had a nominal relationship with a Christian faith community. The respondents to
the survey identified themselves as practicing Christians. According to Barna the biggest
personal challenge related to faith or spirituality is raising moral children or youngsters with a
strong faith. The second challenge is the need to personally invest more time in religious
activities, such as reading the Bible or praying. The response to this dilemma is to make faith
and practice a lower priority in lives of self-identified practicing Christians.
Luke chapter 14:28 reminds us to stop and estimate the cost and benefits before beginning a
task that will not be completed. Developing a balanced life of faith and practice requires an
intentional commitment of time. When there is clarity of expectations we make informed
decisions. We can not know in advance what each day will bring. What we can do is consider
the importance of making balanced commitments and making our spiritual commitments a
priority.
Pray for a balanced life. I invite you take 5 – 15 minutes each day to prayerfully think about
how, when, and where you have committed your time and energy. Next think about what you
must stop doing to live a balanced life of faith and practice. Taking just a few moments each
day to act on seeking a balanced life may be the catalyst required for you or all self-identified
Christians to make the condition of ones spirit the first and most important time commitment.
