I purchased my mums in late August at a bargain price. It was suggested by those that
know more about these kinds of horticultural endeavors that it was a little early for
planting flowers for fall color.   The September heat and very little rain was more stress
than the flowers could tolerate.  My commitment to add some floral color to the parsonage
landscape was a good idea but my timing was off by about thirty days. In the end my first
attempt at planting was not a wise use of my time.

Timing is important when you are planning for growth.  “The month of October offers a
small window to evaluate, aerate plant, fertilize, and water.”  Those are the words of the
one in my home have a unique talent and love of yard work.   It is that season for those
that know about lawns, flowers, to get busy before there is a seasonal weather change.
Living Missouri where the seasons are distinct and dramatic continues to teach me
healthy respects for those that make things grow in the midst of changing seasons. We
have opportunity to prayerfully think about the giving of our time, talents, gifts, money,
and service through the many ministries of St. Andrew.  Join us as we explore what and
how you can share from  “treasure chest” of unique gifts and abilities.
